Led Zeppelin was to the 1970s what the Beatles were to the 1960s: a band so popular and creative that they ended up establishing the prism through which their whole era was seen. Zeppelin ushered in the eras of album rock (they refused to release singles from their albums even when they were getting a lot of radio play) and arena rock (they played bigger and bigger venues as their ticket sales soared).
